Célébrons nos artistes Canadiens

Il est important de nos jours d'encourager la communauté artistique Canadienne débordante de talent. Nos villes et villages Canadiens son rempli d'artistes de toutes les sortes et nous oublions souvent que le Canada est un véritable havre de talent. J'aimerais vous faire connaître un artiste talentueux et inspirant qui a été pour moi une source d'inspiration importante.

Richard Charlebois, un artiste de marqueterie et entrepreneur du studio Artisanwoodbois, travaille le bois d'une façon simple et avec précision en transformant de fines lamelles de bois (du "veneer") en paysages magnifiques et harmonieux.

Cette ancienne technique développée par les Égyptiens lui a été enseigné au Rosewood Studio de Perth, ON. Une fois certifié, Richard, c'est démarquer avec ses talents et son ingénierie en perfectionnant son art. Aujourd'hui il inspire les professionnels, amateurs et admirateurs avec ses représentations passionnantes avec la beauté naturelle du bois.

Why a cowboy boot?

When I was a little girl my parents moved us out to Calgary, Alberta. There we experienced the best of the West: ranches of massive bulls, majestic mountains, arid lost lands of the dinosaur, beautiful native cultures and, of course, cowboys with their weathered boots and worn denim. It was, for a young girl, an adventure and a world of discoveries. I learnt to speak English and met fantastic people who, all on their own, had many stories to tell.

Once back in the East (Ontario), I was a teenage girl, impressionable, unsure, awkward but happy to be back among family and excited to see the Charlebois' back from the West! I had a "twang" in my English and a horrible accent when I spoke French but I quickly shed my apprehensions, mixed in well with my francophone surroundings, and realized that living in the West for nine years had made me a little different and perhaps interesting to some.

After high school and college, I decided that it was time to go back to my French roots and discover the side of me that was dormant – I moved to Montreal, Quebec. There the influence of the West really sets me apart and the cowboy boot quickly became my favorite conversation starter. Alberta may be far from me now and it almost seems like it belongs to another life, but I will always keep it close to my heart.

Challenge Yourself - Laissez vous tenter par un défi

To grow as an artist you must push your artistic limits everyday. To help you do so, observe your surroundings, absorb all visual information and store it within your mind. The human brain is a sponge and can absorb a wealth of information which ounce captured can be transferred to your art.

Go out and surround yourself with new objects, people and environment. The more visual information you take in the more you can push your limits and either perfect your current subject or discover new perspectives and depth. You will quickly see that it's a wonderful sensation to discover a new dimension to your abilities and to see the world from a new angle.

Explore, discover and let every inch of this magnificent world sink within your mind, make it your playground!

Aimeriez-vous "être un artiste" ?  il suffit de pousser vos limites au maximum... et cela, tous les jours. Cela exige d'observer méticuleusement ce qui nous entoure, de visualiser toutes les informations pour les emmaganiser dans notre cerveau. L'intelligence humaine est comme une éponge. Elle peut absorber une quantité d'informations et les transposer à travers une forme d'art.

Sortez, entourez-vous d'objets, de personnes et d'environnements nouveaux. Plus vous enregistrerez d'informations, plus vous pousserez vos limites et plus vous pourrez perfectionner votre sujet en lui donnant différents angles, de nouvelles perspectives et une toute autre profondeur. Vous constaterez rapidement combien il est sensationnel de découvrir une nouvelle dimension à vos habiletés. Le monde ne sera plus pareil.

Explorer, découvrir et se laisser imprégner de chaque mini détail de ce monde merveilleux, voilà un tout autre terrain de jeu pour la vie.

A wonderful little trick

It's very dry in the studio lately, which I realized is not a very good thing for the supply of watercolour paper. Due to the lack of humidity in the room the paper has a tendency to loose it's absorbing attributes. This was affecting my current artwork, without the humidity in the paper, the Pantone ink wasn't absorbing properly and the texture and colour was changing.

However thanks to my clever man, Emmanuel (who is also a very talented artist) the problem was solved by a simple technique: - "Try breathing directly over your paper; that way the paper will absorb the humidity from your breath" - he said. What a simply marvelous idea, and it worked like a charm.

After using this trick, I decided to experiment a little, by breathing over a section where the edges of the marker strokes were previously applied and not blended to my satisfaction. Sure enough the humidity from my breath sank into the paper and the edges smoothed out.

So there you have a quick little trick for dried out watercolour paper!

It's with great pleasure that I welcome everyone to studiocharlebois.ca, a newly born illustration studio vibrant with unique artistic appeal.

After my 30^th birthday last December I realized that this was the beginning of a new and important chapter in my life. I was finally ready to set the wheels in motion and make Studio Charlebois a reality! Thanks to the experience and knowledge achieved from several years of working in the print, design and art industry.

With the support of my friends and family, the confidence in my artistic vision grows stronger everyday. I hope you will visit often for updates on my 2011 collection and daily blog entries about Studio Charlebois and its many endeavors.
